Story – The Nest

It has been a joy over the last term to see The Nest growing and a network of parents with new babies developing.

Sarah and Kelly (a local childcare professional) are offering a welcoming and supportive space for parents to share their experiences of the first year of life with a new baby. Kelly is able to offer practical advice about all aspects of infancy and the parents are sharing their own experiences too. In addition we are inviting local professional to come in and offer professional input or taster sessions. With nearly 20 families connecting with the group over the term it has been a blessing to be a part of their journey. The group will take a break in August but will return in September with more opportunities for connection and community.

If you know someone with a non-walking baby please do invite them to come along. If you are (or know) a professional working in any infancy-related work and could offer to drop in to one of our sessions to offer advice or support in any aspect of early childhood it would be great to offer a variety of input and activities. If you think you could offer an hour of training, support, advice or fun, please e-mail Sarah at families@kairoschurch.net

Short adventure in Sicily

Helen and I are a part of the leadership of The Order of Mission, a charity connecting missionaries, church planters and community leaders. Though we’re not a huge network we have a global reach. Last week I was able to gather with some other members from accross Europe. It was an inspiring adventure!

We were led by Mark Burgess who, as many of you know, leads a network of missional communities in Peru. Over the two days Mark unpacked 1 Corinthians 2: 1-5 and called us to embrace the weakness of knowing nothing but Christ crucified and the determination to demonstrate God’s power through signs and wonders.

It was amazing to be able to hear stories of very ordinary people making disciples in Peru, working among asylum seekers and victims of human trafficking in Finland, seeking renewal in Germany and the Netherlands and planting churches full of all generations in Italy.

My friends Marco and Cinzia took us to see their garden project – quite miraculously God enabled them to buy an unused vineyard which is being transformed into a garden. They are employing young adults to work the land, teaching them life skills and sharing with them the gospel. Their amibition is to turn the land, and its buildings into a centre of training and mission for southern Europe.

I left full of thankfulness (and amazing Italian food). The trip was a reminder that the things God has called us to here – building and releasing communities of followers of Jesus – are a part of renewal around the world!

Blaze Weekend Away

Jan 23-25 saw Blaze take 11 young people to the Westend outdoor centre just outside of Harrogate.

6 Of these young people have been engaged with Blaze for quite a while, 3 on the edge of Blaze, but getting more involved, and 2 joining us for the first time.

The weekend was full of team activities, fun games, chill out times, meals together, and time encountering God together.

A Couple of highlights:

On the Saturday evening, we gave the whole of Blaze the invitation/challenge to move closer to Jesus, and 9 out of the 11 young people there made that decision. it was a great moment, and all those who made that decision were encouraged to tell a leader so they could be encouraged on their journey.

We saw many friendships deepen over the weekend, and a growing sense of belonging to Blaze was certainly parent over the weekend.

Despite late nights for some, and growing tiredness over the weekend, lots of fun and laughter took place, and a number of young people moved forward on their journey with Jesus. Lots to celebrate, give thanks for, and we would encourage you to talk to the young people about the weekend as there are many funny and great stories.
