We are setting up a 24hr prayer room again at the start of January. Come and book an hour or two and make some space to start the year with God and prayer.
We are going to be praying for families and generations and that ‘one generation will tell your works to another’. Psalm 145:4
One of the things I (Ben) keep hearing again and again, in conversation with many of you and as I read and learn about breakthroughs in mission and disciple-making, is the importance of praying.
‘The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.’ James 5:16
More and more of us are learning that time praying together is essential if we are to see personal renewal or change in our community, our town or our world.
‘To clasp the hands in prayer is the beginning of an uprising against the disorder of the world’. Karl Barth, quoted by Pete Greig in Red Moon Rising.
I want to invite you to start September joining with others in Kairos for 24 hours of prayer. The network team are setting up a prayer room at Westcliffe Hall so that we have a space with ideas, prompts and resources to help us pray as a whole church. All we need is for you to come and join us!
Our prayer room will be running from 5pm Friday to 5pm Saturday. There will be prayer prompts based around the parable of the sower helping us to pray for good soil in this season.
Come for an hour or more at any time of the day or night. Why not book in a slot with 1 or 2 others so you can come together?
We will start our 24 hours of prayer together with 3 hours of Pray – Eat – Pray.
5-6pm Pray: Creative prayer for all ages. This will be a fun way to engage with prayer either on your own or as a family.
6-7pm Eat: We’ll eat together. Come and have Friday tea with friends.
7-8pm. Pray: We’ll continue for another hour of gathered prayer and intercession.
Join us to pray then eat, or eat then pray – or all of it! You can just turn up to pray, but please let us know if you want to eat with us by Tuesday 6th September so we can get enough food. Prayer like this often feels like a sacrifice before we do it but a privilege once we’re there.
We are so excited about Launch Week running from Monday 3rd to Thursday 6th September. We are going to be focusing on declaring God’s truth and our prayers will be based around speaking out truth together about who God is, who we are and who He calls us to be. I (Ben) have found that recently I’ve learnt some new things about this way of praying and found real power in declaring God’s truth over my life and our church. I can’t wait to share some of these things with you.
As well as 9am and 12noon prayers we are going to be gathering each evening from 5-8pm and these evenings will follow the pattern Pray, Eat, Pray.
5-6pm: Prayer for all ages. An opportunity for all the generations to pray together. There will be fun, creative and interactive ways to speak God’s truth out together.
6-7pm: Eat together. We are a family, let’s enjoy food together! We’ll have tea in the hall. If you are planning to eat any evening with us simply leave a comment below by the night before.
7-8pm: Declaring further. A final hour of worship and prayer. We’ll be listening to God, responding to what He says, whispering, speaking and maybe even shouting out truth.
You don’t have to stay for the whole evening! Come for the bits that work best for you. Going to a few of these, perhaps at the same time each day will give you a sense of journey during the week. At the very least I’d like to challenge all of you to make space to join us for at least one of these opportunities and see what God does as we pray together.
Three days of prayer to help us seek God at the start of the new term.
We’re excited about this term – there is a sense that God has been speaking to us as a Church about focusing onto the main thing, and about a release of time and energy into MSCs. We’ve talked a about it feeling a bit like a slingshot, you pull back and then you release and there is flight!
Launch week is the pull back – three days to come together and seek God. To worship, to pray and to ask that he would move among us.
From Wednesday 2nd – Friday 4th September there will a prayer room available between 9am and 8pm at the Resource Base. You can turn up at any time and spend some time in prayer.
There will be gathered prayer at 9am and 12noon in the Kairos room. We will also finish each day with an hour of worship and prayer between 8 and 9pm.
We would love you to join us as we seek God together!
